I just read an article via Friendly Atheist about a true American hero by the name of Ellery Schempp. As a high school student in Pennsylvania during the 1950s, Mr. Schempp felt that the daily bible reading he was forced to participate in was against his constitutional rights. You can read his personal account of how he successfully sued his school district thus bringing an end to daily bible reading in U.S. public schools. Details of the Supreme Court case can be read at Wikipedia.
Ministry of Education Policy/Program Memorandum No. 108 establishes policy regarding public elementary and secondary school opening exercises in Ontario.
good read
What a courageous fellow, and his family as well for sticking it out. I don't think you'd get a Supreme Court case with an 8-1 verdict in today's political climate either, so good on the Supreme Court Justices who issued the verdict too.
