It’s amazing what Evangelical Christians will try to pass off as science. Don’t ask me how, but I came across this Young Earth Creationism website: Creation Worldview Ministries. It would appear that the organization is led by a gentleman with the title Missionary Dr. Grady S. McMurtry Full-time International Creation Emissary Biblical Scientific Creationist Apologist. How’s that for an impressive title? A little self-aggrandizement? Anyway, the site is billed as "An Educational Missionary Organization". It would seem that the "Education" being referred to here is that of refuting anything and everything of a scientific nature that does not fit with the myths of the Bible. Here’s just one example of what Dr. McMurtry considers to be scientific. The article entitled The rapid formation of coal and oil caught my attention. In this article an attempt is made to explain how coal and oil came into existence in the earth’s brief 6000 year life.
Notice the use of the words "obvious result" in the above quote. The implication is that you’re a dummy if it’s not obvious to you. Who would want to look like a dummy questioning obvious results? Obvious results need not be questioned. By the way, oil and coal are the obvious result of The Flood, not a flood. No other proof is needed when The Flood is invoked. Scientific indeed!
This is the kind of nonsense that comprises the science curriculum of Evangelical Christian home schooling. Looking through the list of Articles, it becomes clear that McMurtry has taken all the commonly accepted scientific "givens" that contradict the bible and misinterpreted reinterpreted them to fit Creationist views. Dr. McMurtry is a proponent of using the Berean method of proof as the following quote that sums up one of his writings, 30 Reasons why evolution is wrong, clearly illustrates:
Does scientific research get any simpler than that? It’s too bad that real science doesn’t have such a damned convenient way to prove its theories as truth. Here are a couple of links to blogs critical of Dr. Grady S. McMurty’s work:
