Grenville Christian College: Follow-up

The Saturday, September 1 / 07 edition of the Globe and Mail has a follow up story to yesterday's article on Grenville Christian College (see post below). The Globe report centers on the apology given by senior administrator Joan Childs to the school's students via internet message board.

    Joan Childs, who worked at the school for more than 30 years, posted a public apology on an Internet message board that former students have been using for more than a year to talk about what they experienced and suffered.

In the same edition of the Globe, there is an article indicating that legal threats were made to the co-publisher of the Brockville Recorder and Times as it was set to publish a negative story about the college.

    The staff of Brockville's newspaper knew nearly 20 years ago of allegations of religious cult practices at Grenville Christian College but backed off from publishing an article because of legal threats and sources who changed their minds about allowing their names to be used.

i literally ripped the brackets off my braces to get out of that place to go see an orthodontist who was not involved with the school. i started crying in his office and he looked so sad and said he didnt want to see anymore students from grenville because he didnt know what he could do for us. i just wanted to go home but the staff locked me in a staff apartment. my attempts to call home were sabotaged by female staff literally hanging up the pay phone on my parents. i believe there was A LOT of money involved and the large names with the money were under the impression it was a "good" school. every time someone from the outside would come to visit, the staff would be really nice to us and give us cool food etc for around 3 days prior to the outsiders arrival and because we were soooo happy to have some "normalcy" in the way of a movie or something, when the outsider showed up we all looked happy and .... it was terrible

Anonymous, it sounds like you had some nasty experiences at GCC. We're honoured that you've shared with us some of what you have gone through. I hope you'll feel free to drop by and share more. We'd like to hear about it.
